Africa Organization for Standardization (ARSO) Continental Essay Competition 2016/2017





Rwanda Standards Board (RSB) in collaboration with Africa Organization for Standardization (ARSO) is organizing the 4th Continental Essay Competition 2016/2017 with the effort to ensure that youth are enlightened and their standard culture is improved.

About the Award: This year’s theme is: “ROLE OF STANDARDIZATION IN FACILITATING THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN“.
The organizers are inviting students in institutions of higher learning in Africa (Colleges/ Universities approved by their local commission of higher education) to submit their essays on the theme: “Role of Standardisation in Facilitating Human Rights with particular focus on the Rights of Women” to their respective National Standards Bodies (NSBs) email addresses. (Confirm with your respective NSBs on the submission dates) Kindly note that a minimum of 25 participants should be registered with respective NSBs in order for them to proceed to regional competition. This competition is open to all students below the age of 35 years and studying in a university/college recognized by the local commission for university education or equivalent body and minimum of 25 participants should register.

Eligibility: 
  • Length of essays: Essays should be between 1000 and 1200 words
  • Presentation: Essays should be double spaced and presented in Century Gothic, size 12
  • Language of essays: Essays may be submitted in English or French
  • Information on the author: Authors may use up to 50 words to describe themselves. Information should include their names, course and year of study, name, town and country in which their university is located. (N. B: this will not be part of the 1000- 1200 words)
a) This competition is open to Citizens of all African Countries below the age of 35 years living in Africa and studying in a university/college recognised by the local commission for university education or equivalent body in their countries
b) Length of essays : Essays should be between 1000 and 1200 words
c) Presentation: Essays should be double spaced and presented in Century Gothic, size 12
d) Language of essays: Essays may be submitted in English or French
e) Information on the author: Authors may use up to 50 words to describe themselves. Information should include their names, course and year of study, name, town and country in which their university is located. (N. B: this will not be part of the 1000- 1200 words)
f) Contacts of authors: Authors should provide us with their postal, physical, telephone and email addresses on the first page of the essay together with the title of the essay and information on the author. Also kindly attach a copy of the Identity Card or passport and a completely filled registration form that can be obtained from Apex (www.apextrainingafrica.org) and ARSO (www.arso-oran.org)
The following essays are not eligible for this competition:
  • Essays that have been shown or accepted for other competitions.
  • Essays that have been published in any form.
  • Essays that focus on the work of a particular person, organisation or brand name.
g) A number of essays to submitted: Participants are only allowed to submit one essay.
Value of Contest: There will be two levels of winners
At Regional Level
  • 1st position USD 500
  • 2nd position USD 300
  • 3rd position USD 200
At Continental Level 1st position
  • (male and female) each USD 1000
  • 2nd position USD 800
  • 3rd position USD 500
In addition, the winners will be given a trip and accommodation to the next ARSO G.A (ARSO General Assembly) event that will take place in 2017 to be honored.

JAMB Totally Cancels Use of Scratch Cards

– JAMB has cancelled the use of scratch cards for any transaction  – The board described the use of cards as archaic and old-fashioned  – The decision is also as a result of fraudulent practices associated with scratch cards Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has revealed that they have scrapped the use of  scratch cards for any transactions and services.  The reason given for the scrapping was that it was archaic and subject to fraud.  On another note, the registrar, also demanded that the federal government should revert to the former system where serving vice chancellors of universities were made chairmen of the governing board of JAMB.  Dr Fabian Benjamin the spokesperson for JAMB, said, the decision to scrap the use of scratch cards was announced by the registrar in Abuja in a paper he delivered during a meeting of the association of vice chancellors of Nigerian un...
